Shopping in Bahrain

General

There is a wide range of modern shopping complexes with imported luxury goods. Pearls are the main local speciality, used in finely wrought gold jewellery. Famous red clay pottery is available from the village of A'ali; hand-woven cloth from Bani Jamrah and textiles from Al-Jasra.

The most popular items to be shipped to home countries from Bahrain are furniture and carpets. Both antique and more modern Arabic-style furniture are favourites with Western expatriates. You can find unique designs in Bahrain and particularly at sales time you wil find good stuff worth shipping home. Other items that are popular to ship include carpets, framed Arabic jewellery, picture frames and models of dhows, the traditional local fishing boats.

Shopping hours are generally Saturday-Thursday, 8:30 am-12:30 pm and 3:30 pm-7:30 pm. Some shops
are open for a few hours on Friday mornings in the souks.

Manama

Manama is a great place for night shopping: just stroll through the labyrinthine streets behind Bab al-Bahrain to discover how locals spend their evenings bartering in the clothes, textiles and gold souks. A visit to the local souk is a must. There you can negotiate the price on watches, jewellery, and many other gifts. The souk is also home to many excellent tailors. If you're there for long enough, then you can take a favourite clothing item in and they will "clone" it precisely in any material you select from the huge range available.

There are several major malls in Manama that offer international and luxury labels shops and boutiques, supermarkets and so forth, as well as food courts, contemporary and traditional cafés, play areas and arcades, cinemas (3D & 2D) and even an in-door water park.

Bahrain City Centre is the first and biggest mixed-use development in Bahrain offering the best shopping, leisure and entertainment experience to its customers under one roof. Bahrain City Centre has introduced a world-class retail ambience and hundreds of other 'firsts' to the Kingdom including 150 of its over 350 internationally reputed brands making their début in the country.

Yateem Centre introduced for the first time in Bahrain the concept of a fully climate controlled shopping centre. Today, Yateem Centre is acknowledged as the first and the most successful downtown shopping centre in Manama by shopkeepers and shoppers alike.

The first authentic mall in Bahrain, Seef Mall continues to dominate the retail sector and is the heart and soul of Seef district with its distinctive architecture and atmosphere for the whole family to enjoy.

Moda Mall is an ultra-exclusive shopping complex located on the ground floor of the landmark Bahrain World Trade Centre, with tenants comprising a veritable who’s-who of the fashion world. The mall is home to some 160 exclusive brand name boutiques a number of which were previously unattainable in the Kingdom of Bahrain, including lots of famous international ones.
