Chakazoolu is an indoor theme park on two floors with rides, bumper cars, a roller coaster, games and places to buy food. Entry is free, but you need to buy a rechargeable card (minimum charge BD2) to use the games and rides. If you buy a card for BD5, you get another BD2 free. Video games cost 250 fils a go.
Foton World in Bahrain Mall is an indoor theme park that has small boat rides, bumper cars, a roller coaster, games and places to buy food. Entry is free and children can enter alone and remain unattended. Games and rides cost 400 to 500 fils.
Situated on the Marina Corniche, Funland has a bowling alley with 18 lanes and a full-size ice-skating rink. The centre is open for bowling from 9 am to 1 pm and for skating from 9 am to 11:30 pm. The prices are BD2.500 for two hours of ice skating, which includes hire of skates. There is a concession of BD2 per person for a group of 10 or more people, but you need to book in advance. Bowling costs BD1 per game from Saturday to Wednesday and BD1.600 per game on Thursday and Friday.
The outdoor part of Kid’s Kingdom has a mini chair-o-plane, bungee bouncers, a bouncy castle, a giant blow-up Titanic slide and other attractions. The park is open from 4 pm to 10:30 pm from Saturday to Tuesday, 4 pm to midnight on Wednesday, 4 pm to 1 am on Thursday and 3:30 pm to 10:30 pm on Friday. Entry is free, but there is a charge for each of the rides. Children cannot be admitted without an adult, or left unattended.
Magic Island is an indoor theme park in Seef Mall with over 120 different games and attractions including a Chamber of Horrors, a Roller Coaster Simulator and a Roller Blade Arena. Open from 10 am to midnight every day (except for Wednesdays and Thursdays when it stays open for an extra hour). Entrance is free, but you have to pay for each ride. Charges range from 200 fils to BD1.500. Children can enter and remain in the park unattended, but there is a height limit on some of the rides, like the Roller Coaster Simulator.
Above Fuddruckers in Adliya, Playland is an indoor centre with games, climbing frames and a ball pool. Each ride costs 100 fils.
The Children & Youth Science Centre
The Children & Youth Science Centre in Umm Al Hassam is a hands-on science museum for children. The staff are friendly and helpful, and children are encouraged to experiment and learn about science through playing with the colourful exhibits. Entry is free.
Al Qassari Water Park
This water park has recently reopened after being partly destroyed by fire during the civil unrest in the mid-90s. It is located on the right of Shaikh Salman Highway, on the bend just before you reach the traffic lights at Al Khamis Mosque. There are three swimming pools, a large one for adults and two smaller ones for children. Attendants on duty at each pool and it is possible to arrange swimming lessons. The shower blocks and toilets are clean. Ladies do not generally go into the pools, but tend to sit around the children’s pools. However, a separate ladies’ pool will be opened in the near future. Ice-cream, cold drinks and sandwiches are on sale. The entry fee is BD1 for a two-hour session. Call for further details.
